We were in Florence recently and having walked till we dropped for the preceding three days we were glad to escape the heat of the city and head for the hills of Fiesole. Having had a leisurely wander round the town and taken endless photos of the beautiful views we were ready for some sustenance.

Although it was a hot day we both decided that it would be a sin to be in Italy and settle for a salad and so my husband decided to try the dish of the day, wild boar with juniper berries whilst I opted for the lasagne after narrowly deciding I’d prefer that over the spaghetti bolognese dish. I know it is sold in every supermarket and pasta joint at home but none of them could compare with what I was about to eat.

I realised that I had not made a lasagne at home for many years. In fact my last attempt had been in the days when you had to cook your lasagne first and a great hassle it was too. Nowadays you can buy lasagne which does not need to be pre-cooked making the cook’s job infinitely easier. I had no excuse not to try to recreate my Fiesole experience when I got home.

A quick look on the internet made me realise that there is an enormous number of lasagne recipes: lentil lasagne, tomato and goat’ s cheese lasagne, roasted vegetable lasagne, the rather esoteric leek, mushroom, fried egg and pangrattato lasagne and the rather delicious sounding scallop, wild mushroom and truffle lasagne. They all sounded interesting but would have to wait for another day.

I was also spoiled for choice by the number of recipes for traditional lasagne, including those offered by Schwartz, but after a lot of deliberation I opted for one that included not only beef mince but also pork mince for the ragu. It also included a bottle of red wine (so not a cheap dish), celery, carrot, onion, rosemary, tomatoes and beef stock. I impressed myself by making the béchamel sauce without a single lump, layered the ragu and white sauce with the pasta, and added some mozzarella and parmesan. Modesty prevents me from telling you just how good it was but the finished result more than justified the outlay in terms of cost and effort.

Portugal is one of the oldest states in Europe. The country is surrounded by Spain on its east and north and is separated from the Atlantic Ocean on its west and south by over 1100 continuous miles of often spectacular coastline. You can find a lot of needed travel information about Portugal online including facts, maps, history, culture, transport and weather and so on at Algarve.mydestinationinfo. Just would like to add the list of places in Portugal one should visit:

LISBON – The seductive capital
SINTRA – Enchanting fairytale town
EVORA – A museum-town
OBIDOS – A medieval storybook
PORTO – A majestic port city
BATALHA and ALCOBA?A – World Heritage architecture
TOMAR – Home of the knights
LAGOS to SAGRES – The waters at end of the world
MARV?O – A spectacular site, a spectacular sight
BRAGA – The Baroque City

1.The Gulbenkian Museum
2.St. Jorge’s Castle
3.Praca de Comercio
4. Belem
5. Chiado
6. Ponte 25 de Abril
7. Protugal’s Cristo Rei
8. Aveiro City
9. Coimbra City
10.Porto
11.Madeira and Porto Santo
12.St. Jorge’s Castle

and more and more

Portugal is almost the warmest countries of Europe. During spring and summer, it is usually sunny and temperatures high. In autumn and winter, it is generally windy and rainy, but sunny at times. So if you love traveling you can drop in at Portugal at any time as the climate is not very extreme.

We have had a great time on Bled lake in Slovenia this summer. There is a wonderful atmosphere there for such value rest as you just can dream about. No computers, no work, crowd of people as well, but amaizing views of nature, many options for walk, byke and water tours.

We got perfect appartments in Gostilna Murka, there were 2 big bedrooms, kithcen with all needed kitchen supplies and bathroom with toilets. Murka restaurant that is on the ground floor offers wide rage of options to order very tasty dishes up to the room. My friends which ate mashrooms soup spoke favourably of it.

The owner of this place is also a chief cook in the restaurant. By the way here is his email – info@gostilna-murka.com – keep it to contact him to get detailed information. He organized for us transfer from airport Ljubljana to the Bled as well.

Graeme Chuter came to airport and took us to Bled in comportable car. On the way he told us which places are best here and must be seen then gave us some important advices by that. You can also contact Graeme for getting more information by email info@4seasonstravelslovenia.com

Thank you for great vacation! I’m in love with Slovenia now!

Central Park Sent Just Hotel is not so close to the center of city as we wanted but it’s not big problem. Because it takes only 5 minutes to walk to the tram station (T3) then you getting Maria Kristina metro station (L3 green line) you reach easly to Cataloniya placa and Rambla street.

You buy tickets for tram only in automatic vending machines on the station, tram-driver doesn’t sell tickets. Being in Barcelona 3.5 days we bought card for 10 full journeys .

At the same time we love to walk a lot and one of the days we used Barcelona Bus Turistic. The price for such card is not too high – 7.85€ from 1 to 6 zones (that’s what you need). Buying this card you can use it then on tram, metro and buses. If you change from tram to metro during 1 hour 15 minutes it’s still counted as 1 journey. You can look at the screen of automat how many trips you have when you slide your card.

When you come to the tram station you can see on indicator board how much time is for the next tram. Night-porter in the hotel understands English scarcely. But day-porters are speaking and understanding English well ,ready to help and answer on your questions.

There are many beautiful places in Fhance must be visited. So, we tried this summer to visit some of them including in our travel plan one of the most beautiful one – Chateau de Villandry, famous The Castle of Villandry. Its rich history started in far 1189 when Philippe II August (“the Conqueror”) who was a brilliant warrior and a master strategist, demanded to meet the king of England, Henri II Plantagenet, after having defeated him at the battle of Azay-le-Rideau earlier that year.

Philippe II August informed him of the terms of the peace treaty that would require him to relinquish part of his land holdings in France. Legend has it that the king of France was so moved by the English sovereign’s poor state of health during their meeting that he offered him a seat, but Henri II refused and kept standing, held up by his guardsmen.

His fragile and already angry condition was no doubt exacerbated by the wrath incurred at the sight of his son, then Count of Poitou (and future Richard Lionhearted), who had fought at the king of France’s side. King Henri II had vowed to avenge this slight in blood, but died 3 days later, damning the son who had betrayed him.

Jean le Breton (“the Briton”) was Minister of Finances under king François I. He had the castle of Villandry built in the early 16th century, on the foundations of a medieval fortress on the left bank of the river Cher. His trade may have been business, but he also had exceptional architectural experience: he had been the construction manager for the castle of Chambord for many years and had also been the French Ambassador to Italy, where he had studied landscape design. Originally, the village and the estate were together known as the “Colombiers” (“Dove Roosts”) but the minister found it too common a name. As he was in the good graces of the royal family, he was allowed to change not only the name of the village and castle, but also his own. Jean le Breton soon became “Monsieur de Villandry”.

This castle, just like the one at Azay-le-Rideau, was a means for its owner to acquire important social standing, so Jean le Breton and his family didn’t hesitate to invest their entire fortune to improve the castle and its park. Whether it was due to his honesty or his cleverness, Jean Le Breton was never dishonored or dispossessed of his belongings as were the owners of Azay-le-Rideau and Chenonceau. In 1619, Jean le Breton’s grandson, Balthazar, was even conferred a title of nobility and became the “Marquis de Villandry”.
